Terms of use
Last updated 19 October 2026
Whimsi is a digital catalogue for delightful apps, games and creative tools, made by independent makers, at whimsi.fun. These terms cover using Whimsi and listing something on it. By using Whimsi, you agree to them.
The short version
- Makers own what they make. Whimsi doesn't own the apps, games and tools listed here, or their software, and claims no rights over them, before or after they're published.
- Whimsi owns Whimsi: our website and its software, our name, logo, branding and creative materials.
- Apps listed here are made and run by other people. Children should only use Whimsi with a parent or guardian.
Your app is yours
Whimsi does not own, and doesn't claim any rights in, the apps, games and tools listed on it. That includes their software and code, names, designs, artwork, screenshots, content and ideas.
All intellectual property rights in your app belong to you (and anyone you made it with). Listing it on Whimsi doesn't transfer any of them to us, and publishing your listing doesn't change that. You're free to list, sell or share your app anywhere else.
Showing your listing
For Whimsi to work, we need your permission to show your listing. By listing something, you give Whimsi permission to show its name, description, screenshot and link, and the name you choose to show as "by …", on Whimsi, on its share cards, and when we tell people about Whimsi (for example on social media).
- This permission is free and non-exclusive, and it doesn't give us ownership of anything.
- It ends when you take your listing down. Something we've already posted elsewhere, such as an older social media post, may stay up, but we'll remove it if you ask.
When you list something
By putting something up, you're telling us that:
- you made it, or you're allowed to list it
- your listing is accurate, and the screenshot is of your app
- it doesn't use other people's characters, brands or work without their permission
- it isn't made for children, and it follows the rules in "What Whimsi doesn't list" below
- it follows the law, including data protection law if it collects anything from the people who use it
Your app, how it works and how it treats the people who use it are your responsibility. You can change your listing, or take it down, at any time from Your listings.
What Whimsi doesn't list
Whimsi doesn't list apps with:
- sexual or explicit content
- gambling or betting
- explicit or graphic violence
- racist, hateful or discriminatory messages
- anything that promotes harm, such as self-harm, harassment, scams or breaking the law
We check listings, and may hold one back while we take a look. If something on Whimsi breaks these rules, tell us and we'll remove it.
Children and young people
Whimsi is made for adults. Children should only use Whimsi with the supervision of a parent, guardian or another adult who looks after them. Children under 13 shouldn't sign in or list anything.
The apps listed here are made by independent makers, and what suits one age may not suit another. Parents and guardians are responsible for what their children use. Whimsi can't take responsibility for children using listed apps that aren't right for their age.
Apps made by other people
Listings link to apps on other websites, made and run by their makers, not by Whimsi. We don't control them, check their code, or promise that they work, are safe, or are right for you. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.
If something doesn't work, press "doesn't work?" on its card and tell us what's wrong, so the maker can fix it.
Ratings and notes
Notes help makers, so please be kind and honest. By sending a rating or a note, you give Whimsi permission to show it on the listing and to the maker. Notes get a quick check before they appear. We may hide any note that's unkind, explicit or misleading.
Whimsi is ours
The Whimsi website and its software, the name Whimsi, our logo, branding, stickers, illustrations, design, share cards and the writing on this site belong to Whimsi. All rights in them are ours.
Please don't copy or reuse them without asking us first. Sharing links to Whimsi, and the share cards made for your own listings, is welcome: that's what they're for.
Taking things down
We can hold back or remove a listing, a note or an account that breaks these terms, or if we have another good reason to. Where we can, we'll tell you why.
Our responsibility
Whimsi is free to use and is provided as it is. We work to keep it running, but it may sometimes be unavailable or not work as expected. To the extent the law allows, Whimsi isn't responsible for any loss or harm that comes from using apps listed on it, or from Whimsi being unavailable.
Nothing in these terms limits anything the law doesn't allow us to limit, or your rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Whimsi grows, for example if we add new features, paid features, or ways for makers to sell through Whimsi. When we do, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell makers about big changes before they apply.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Questions? Write to us through the contact form. You can read how we handle your information in our privacy policy.
